can any help on the issue of the screen in out-patients?

We scan final check and then ready for collection before a script is handed out.

Unfortunately this then means that this messages then appears on the screen and the patient jumps up expecting it to be given out.

As ready for collection " stops the clock ticking " and we have to adher to a 20 min turnaround for our out-patient prescription we cannot ddelay this scan in the process until we are physically at the hatch ready to give it out.

However, this then means that when we are busy there is often a delay in when the checker scans ready for collection to when there is a tech available to give it out to the patient at the hatch.

this is causing undue distress at the hatch with the patients getting annoyed that their prescription says it is ready on the screen when actually it is not quite there ( not enough hands to get thjem out quick enough! )

Is anyone else using this system and if so how to you overcome this problem please? We have turned the screen off today as we are fed up with annoying the patients!

I'm afraid it seems you already know the answer to this question really, and that is the fact that you honestly should not be scanning the Ready for Collection barcode prematurely for the sake of meeting your targets :-)

Assuming your target times are based on the period of time until the patient is handed the prescription, the answer I have to give is that you should only scan Ready for Collection when the prescription is really ready, and if that means indicating that you have not met your targets then you have some evidence that you need more hands at the hatch!
