At the Royal Surrey County Hospital we are considering whether or not to track dispensing errors to the drugs involved. A couple of questions,
Do any other trusts have any experience with this?
If so, are you importing barcodes from a pre-exising local database e.g. robot/JAC/Ascribe, or are there any national databases?
Do you input barcodes from non-robot items to track these also?

We have exported from our stock control system but are only using one EAN code per drug name and not going down to pack size or form, just looking at drug name trends.

Do need to find out how to technically upload spreadsheet :)

Hi Steve/ Ian

I am from Medway Maritime Hospital. I was also looking into this as an option. We have a robot and was looking into exporting the data from there but was wondering what you do about non-robot stock?

So far we are trialling recording errors without drug barcodes at all, it seems to be going well and if it continues to go well we will definitely consider adding them in.

I suppose all the non-robot items will have to be added manually to the stock control software (we use JAC).

Ian, when you say one EAN code per drug, is that using a pre-existing barcode from a single product or have you manually assigned barcodes 'in-house'?

Steve,

How are you recording the drug names when recording errors?

We havent tried recording the drug names yet, just skipping that stage and recording the error type
