PTS allows for tracking a prescriptions progress through the dispensing process using barcodes and scanners.
New scanners and new PCs will not work without some configuration. Additionally as barcode scanners are the most numerous, varied and heavily used equipment we supply with PTS it's not uncommon for one to temporarily stop working.
Symptoms
The scanner is connected to the PC, the trigger produces a scanning beam, but scanning a barcode doesn't generate a reaction from PTS.
Probable causes
- The PTS Comms Client is not installed. How do I know?
- The PTS Comms Client is not successfully connecting to your PTS server. How do I know?
- The barcode scanner is not correctly configured for use with PTS. How do I know?
- The PTS Comms Windows Service has been stopped or disabled.
Solutions
- Install the PTS Comms Client.
- Fully uninstall PTS Comms and reinstall and pay close attention to these steps.
- Run through the configuration procedure.
- Reboot the PC; this should help if the service has stopped for no apparent reason. If the service has been disabled you will have to consult with IT; it's likely something is disabling the service inappropriately.
